In Rhythm of Touch, wei and Hubbell explore in-between spaces and ideas of slow time through sound, installation, sculpture, performance, and video. The exhibition underlines how our environment is transformed through mutual touch and the imprint and effects that our interactions with others can create.

In her work, Katie Hubbell is interested in observing how audiences become aware of their body through sensorial experiences. In take care now (2024), Hubbell orchestrates a meditation on slowness and shared aliveness through an installation composed of multiple sculptures combining moss, chicken wire, paper pulp, and sound. Hubbell’s installation plays with textures and ASMR sounds to describe an encounter with a slug, somehow implicating the audience personally. The sonic and sculptural works are accompanied by two videos evoking hypnotic views of soft bodies and their environments, summoning ideas of care and intimacy. 

wei presents Ensemble, a multimedia installation that explores the artist’s queer immigrant experience through the concept of penumbra, the partially shaded outer region of a shadow, and by celebrating in-betweenness and reconsidering the boundaries of bodies in space. This site-specific installation is composed of a series of non-tonal, touch-based wax sculptures with contact microphones that amplify the movements and vibrations of physical touch and will be activated through performance during the opening and closing receptions by performing artists Hyoju Cheon, Soeun Bae, Yukai Chen, Winnie, and Tianyi Sun, on Thursday, August 1st at 7 pm, and Sunday, August 11 at 4 pm.
