Katie Hubbell creates layered sensorial experiences that invite audiences to become keenly aware of their own bodies. Drawing inspiration from the hypnotic quality of ASMR, her video and sound work moves from soothing and meditative to humorous or grotesque. Her work encourages viewers to slow down and be present, exploring themes of care, intimacy, touch, and connection. Hubbell was born in Austin, TX, and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. She holds an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, and a BFA in painting from Kansas State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and in Europe. She has attended residencies at the NARS Foundation, Wassaic Project, Elsewhere Museum Residency, Vermont Studio Center, 77 Art, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Oxbow School of Art and Artist Residency, and was a visiting artist in residence at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
